2016 Masonic Golf Tournament

Each year the Fraternal Order of Free and Accepted Masons Huachuca Lodge 53, holds an Annual Charity golf tournament in support of local academic youth organizations. The event began in 2014 to assist youth programs that focus on academic achievement and maintain emphasis on pedagogical programs in order to promote the importance of education in our community and support the development of 21st Century Skills within our youth. The 2016 tournament was held on 14 MAY and raised $4000 for the Colonel Smith Middle School (CSMS) Cyber Patriots & Stem Clubs. The clubs focus on developing Information Technology, cyber security, and computer programming skills which are tested in a competitive environment. The team recently won the President’s Cup and are looking toward Nationals held in Washington D.C. Karl Griffor, director of the CSMS Cyber Patriots & STEM Club, said this donation just changed the lives of 55 kids. The proceeds will allow the organization to purchase new computing devices, creating new opportunities for the students to expand on their already remarkable achievements.

Thirteen teams completed in a four person scramble format at the Mountain View Golf Course on Fort Huachuca, with the top three teams receiving trophies for their efforts. SSVEC emerged as the clear victor posting a 59, National EWP nosed out the Raytheon team to finish off the top three spots. Miss Cochise County, Stefanie Bezduch and Miss Cochise County Outstanding Teen McKenna Heck assisted with the event by registering teams, handing out trophies to the winners and assisting with the check presentation. The Miss Cochise County Program routinely assists in community and charitable events in an effort to give back to the community. SSVEC, National EWP, Raytheon, and Saguoro Podiatry were our four top sponsors this year, followed by generous donations form Lawley Automotive group, Isaacson Homes/Cochise Tech, Kiwi Hifi, ICE Inc., Sierra Vista medical Group, Agnew Capital Management, and Healogics. Without the generosity of our local businesses and sponsors, events like this would not be possible. Next year’s event is scheduled for Sunday May 7th 2017 at the Mountain View Golf Course. We hope to see you there!
