Sierra Vista, Ariz. — Huachuca Masonic Lodge No. 53 recently partnered with the Center for Academic Success (CAS) in Sierra Vista to complete this year’s Bikes for Books literacy incentive program.
Bikes for Books is a youth literacy program that encourages elementary students to develop strong reading habits by combining reading achievement with a fun and motivating incentive. By rewarding students for their efforts with bicycles and helmets, the program promotes both literacy and healthy activity while reinforcing the value of learning at an early age.
This year’s program ran from November 17 through December 12, 2025, and included students in grades one through five at CAS. During that time, students collectively read an impressive 508 books, demonstrating enthusiasm, dedication, and a strong commitment to reading.
For every book read, students earned an entry into a drawing for a brand-new bicycle and helmet, with separate drawings held for each grade level. At the conclusion of the program, ten students, two from each grade, were awarded new bicycles and helmets purchased by Huachuca Lodge No. 53.
In addition, CAS kindergarten teachers ran a parallel Bikes for Books effort for their students, resulting in two kindergarten students also earning new bicycles during the same time period.
Among the participating grades, first grade led the way with 178 books read, earning a pizza party in recognition of their outstanding accomplishment.
Now in its fifth year of running Bikes for Books, Huachuca Lodge No. 53 remains committed to continuing the program as part of its ongoing dedication to supporting youth literacy and education in the local community.
Special Thanks: Huachuca Lodge No. 53 would like to thank the Center for Academic Success, with special appreciation to Caty Auger, CAS Family Liaison, for her coordination and support throughout the program. The Lodge also thanks Jenelle and Austin at Sierra Vista Walmart for their help in selecting and preparing the bicycles, the team at U-Haul, 2011 E. Fry Blvd., for their assistance with transportation and logistics, and Sierra Vista Pizza Hut for their support in helping make the first-grade pizza celebration a success.
