Knights Templar Christmas Observance at Huachuca 53

On Sunday, December 8, 2024, members of the Knights Templar gathered at Huachuca 53 Lodge to observe the annual Christmas celebration, a joyous occasion to honor the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of Mankind. The event, which began at 1:00 PM, was open to everyone, and all were invited to join in this cherished tradition.

The Christmas Observance is an important part of the Knights Templar calendar, allowing Sir Knights, Companions, Brothers, family, friends, and guests to unite in fellowship and reflection on the true meaning of the season. Local Commanderies are encouraged to hold these observances throughout December as a way to come together in the spirit of celebration and gratitude.

This custom dates back to 1876, when Sir Knight Stephen Berry, Past Commander of Portland Commandery No.2 in Maine, proposed the first Knights Templar Christmas Toast. The idea spread worldwide, eventually becoming a tradition observed by Knights Templar jurisdictions around the globe. The toast was originally held at noon on Christmas Day, as Sir Knight Berry encouraged his fellow Sir Knights to "drink a toast" in honor of their loyalty and allegiance to the Great Captain of Our Salvation.

As the years passed, the tradition expanded, with Sir Knights gathering for the Christmas Observance at various times to accommodate members from different regions. What started as a local practice in Maine grew into a worldwide custom that unites the Order in a shared expression of faith and fraternity.

At Huachuca 53, the Knights Templar Christmas Observance is not only an opportunity for reflection and celebration, but also a reminder of the values that unite us as an Order—brotherhood, loyalty, and faith. It was a special moment for all who attended to come together, celebrate, and renew their commitment to the ideals that the Christmas season represents.

The Lodge looks forward to more opportunities for fellowship and camaraderie in the coming year, and we encourage all members to join us in future events. Thank you to everyone who attended the Christmas Observance, and we wish you all a joyful holiday season.
