Huachuca Lodge No. 53 F&AM Installs New Worshipful Master and Officers in 66th Ceremony

Sierra Vista, AZ - December 18, 2023 – On the evening of December 17, 2023, Huachuca Lodge No. 53 Free and Accepted Masons (F&AM) held its 66th Installation of Officers Ceremony at their Masonic Lodge. This significant event marked the induction of Worshipful Brother Jason Cummins as the new Worshipful Master, along with a newly appointed slate of officers who will guide the Lodge's activities and support the local community.

The title "Worshipful" in Freemasonry, though rooted in ancient tradition, simply denotes respect. When a Master Mason is elected to lead, he is granted this title, signifying his position as a respected leader of the Lodge, rather than one who is to be worshiped.

The Installation Ceremony, steeped in history, was open to family, friends, and the public, providing insight into the Masonic tradition of leadership transition. Typically, the journey to becoming Worshipful Master spans about seven years, as Freemasons progress "Up The Line" of officers, learning lessons in charity, service, and personal growth.

A highlight of the evening was the heartfelt recognition of Brother Carlton Buscemi, who was named Huachuca Lodge's 2023 Mason of the Year. This prestigious honor, presented by outgoing Worshipful Master Rayna Stanley, acknowledged Brother Buscemi's tireless dedication to the Lodge and his exceptional service to Freemasonry and the community.

In his first act as the new Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Jason Cummins outlined his primary goal for his term: growing the Lodge and welcoming new members. He emphasized that Freemasonry does not extend invitations for membership—those interested must join of their own free will and accord.

Once initiated, new members undergo rituals that have been passed down for centuries, imparting timeless lessons. One of the earliest teachings involves the allegory of the perfect and rough ashlars. Freemasons liken life to a journey of refinement, with the aim of transforming the rough ashlar into a perfect one—symbolizing personal growth. The fraternity's mission, “To make good men better,” is achieved by cultivating values like character, truth, and justice while helping others on their journey of self-improvement.

Huachuca Lodge’s impact extends beyond its ritual and fellowship, playing a vital role in Sierra Vista’s development. Several local streets, including Heggie Drive and Martin Drive, honor past Lodge members. The Lodge remains actively engaged in the community through charitable initiatives such as donating school supplies, supporting reading programs, and assisting graduating seniors. Over the past few years, the Lodge has donated more than $20,000 to local causes.

Huachuca Lodge No. 53 holds its regular meetings on the first Wednesday of each month and invites those curious about Freemasonry to attend a monthly social dinner, starting at 6 PM. The dinner offers a perfect opportunity to connect with Lodge members and explore what Freemasonry has to offer.
